Rotary Leadership Institute

Here's a grand opportunity to increase your leadership skills courtesy of Rotary Leadership Institute. This program actually has several levels: participants must complete each level before taking the next. There will be a RLI held in Sebring on July 23 at Sebring Middle School. Registration information can be found here. (When last checked, the location information was incorrect...this program WILL be held at the Middle School.) Call President Jim for more information.

Installation Banquet

The mood was tropical on Tuesday, June 14th as 40 members and guests attended the Lake Placid Noon Rotary Installation Banquet. With a little help from musician Gary Filip and some tropical drinks, we were soon transported to the islands for the evening.

This year's banquet was held at Placid Lakes Country Club and we were proud to welcome several distinguised guests. Bob Arnold, Sergeant-At-Arms for District 6890, was the keynote speaker; he presented "Motivational Story Telling". Greg Druiry, Assistant Governor (District 6890) and Larry Shoeman, incoming president of the Avon Park Noon Club were in attendance and Mayor and Mrs. John Holbrook were also in the audience.

President Donald Elliott kept the mood lively and light as he saluted members that had been particularly supportive over the last year. Donald honored the following members with service awards:
Eduardo Maldonado - publication of the weekly newsletter
David Smith - providing weekly program speakers
Merry Cresswell - service as Club Historian
Forrest Steele - service in Public Relations
Lorraine Hutchins - service to Youth
Bill Ricter - service in Member Retention
Fourteen members were presented with perfect attendance certificates.

Sara Carnes-Costello was honored for her outstanding service to the president over the past year and Norma Rizer was designated "Rotarian of the Year". Both received engraved pen sets and a hug from Donald.

Officers were installed with the help of Bob Arnold and the gavel was passed from Donald to the new president, Jim Carroll.

A group sing of Let There Be Peace on Earth concluded the evening.

Passing the Gavel

The gavel was passed in a brief ceremony at this event. Seven past presidents handed the gavel from earliest to latest...and then on to Jim.
